My most refined  build SR-15

Beginning

At the beginning there was chaos, I wanted to have a replica for everything. For CQB and forest trips, but if something is for everything, it is useless, and this is how I chose the final option of building a replica from scratch.

The choice fell on the M4 platform, of course in Recce rifle specification. While browsing the Internet, I came across an SR-15  from KAC and immediately realized that I wanted to have a replica that looked like this.

Whole proces started at 2020 when i bought a first version Specna Arms Edge E 03  Licensed by Rock River Arms with X-ASR mosfet from Gate and Orion gearbox. My first impression was honestly not good. Hanguard was woobling, internal parts were not well fitted, the nozzle had significant leakage, the standard electrical system without an optical mosfet worked properly. The gearbox shell itself was made correctly and with a few reinforcements in critical places.

The replica is checked once a year, the grease is replaced with new ones, in short it is well-maintained, although visually there will still be changes It will definitely be painted and the front will be changed to the one in SPR MOD 0 I really like its shape and always wanted to have this piece of pipe on my replica.

The start of work

I started the initial modifications by replacing the precision barrel, the hop up rubber with the spacer and adding a stronger spring M130 Tornado and 11.1 2600mAh battery. The manufacturer declared that straight from the box, the factory gearbox will withstand springs up to M140 and a battery voltage of 11.1.

With this setup, I used it often and had no problems with its performance , the range and repeatability of shots improved significantly, the response to the trigger also improved, which suited me very well at that time.I also didn’t want to throw in a lot of internal parts at the beginning I didn’t have the funds for it at that time. I played with her quite often and it worked great.

Of course, it was modified externally because why not I was supposed to like it because that’s what it’s all about.

First external modifications.

Visually, at that moment I thought it was OK, but there is always a medium lenght black rifle that will be very visible in the forest, it would be nice to paint it and the idea for it was born a variation on the Tiger Stripe camouflage.

I think it turned out very nice, visually I like the painting done quickly at home, with pieces of a dishwashing sponge. For this I used FOSCO Flecktarn Grun paint and of course correct to glued irregular strips of painter’s tape.

Then it was time to replace the optics – I switched from the collimator to the UTG scope, which can be seen in the photo above in camouflage from my friend, it did the job.The optics themselves are really good and can be used on firearms, but in this case I could not set it in a way that was convenient for me, namely the scope’s eyepiece could not be moved so that I could see the full image, so I switched to another model.

In this case, my choice fell on the Vector Optics scope with 1-4 x magnification,20mm objective lens and 38mm eyepiece lens provide bright images and a wide field of view, with the VMD-2 reticle and the 1/2 MOA ensure accuracy in aiming. Very bright image, nice reticle, really a very good purchase.

Sometimes I also install a collimator type MRO-C both sights fit very well and I use them interchangeably, I have the settings for each sight saved so there is no problem with re-setting after removal.Sometimes I also install a lighting system in the form of AN-PQ 15 when we know that I may need a lot of light, together with MRO it works great, especially when playing at night in a larger area than usual.

Light set

The stock has been changed from the SOPMOD type to one dedicated to the HK416 and I must admit that folding to shoot is now even more convenient and intuitive than before. Now getting into the scope or collimator is more pleasant and more intuitive, at least for me, I don’t have to move my head around looking for a good setting to see a dot or a crosshairs. There is also a nice solution for the battery in the stock, in my case I use lipo 11.1 2600v packs and everything fits nicely inside and there is still plenty of space for cables.

Recently I returned to the heavy set, i.e. with a LPVO and a flashlight with new flashlight assembly. There is also a new stock from HK416, in my opinion very comfortable and it’s mega easy to use it to compose yourself for a shot.

Internal parts

After purchase, the spring was replaced with a stronger M130 from Tornado. The precision assembly, i.e. the barrel, rubber and hop-up chamber, has also been changed. When it comes to the eraser and spacer, my choice fell on the Maple Leaf Super Macaron 75° with an omega spacer. The hop-up chamber is a classic ProWin. The precision barrel was initially from Guarder, 6.02 in diameter but it did not meet my expectations in terms of precision and repeatability of shots The next step was replacing the cylinder with a type 0 from Slong Airsoft, the rest of the pneumatics remained factory as well as the electrics kit, i.e. the Xasr MOSFET from Gate with a stock motor and gears.

Less than a year later, everything has changed and now it looks like this:

  • 6.02 Maple Leaf 455mm Precision Barrel
  • Tornado High Torque Engine
  • Specna Arms gears with gear ratio 13:1
  • Full steel jaw piston Specna Arms
  • Slong Airsoft Ventilated Piston Head
  • Specna Arms Thick Bumper Cylinder Head
  • Gate Aster Advance electronic system
  • Retro Arms Straight Trigger
  • The Retro Arms gearbox frame and the slide bearing set
  • Tornado M130 spring.

It’s possible that I missed something, but with this set, currently with 0.32g pellets, the replica generates a stable 2.3 J at a fairly large range and very satisfactory focus and shot repeatability. Of course, with this power, the Auto mode was electronically disabled – thanks to the MOSFET settings, it went very smoothly.
